Rwanda Gorillas
Thanks to the investment from tourism operators including Rwanda Singita Kwitonda Lodge and Kataza House and Wilderness Safaris Bisate Lodge Rwanda and the Rwanda government, Rwanda is bouncing back and offers a brilliant opportunity to experience the RWANDA GORILLAS at the Volcanoes National Park. Just over a 2 hour drive from the capital Kigali guests are given the opportunity to see firsthand Mountain Gorillas in addition to the Golden Monkeys. Over the past 3 years national parks and lodges have opened up for tourists to immerse in a variety of wilderness and wildlife experiences while directly contributing and supporting biodiversity conservation and local community engagement.
Uganda Gorillas
The Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda is home to the primary gorilla tracking location to view the Mountain Gorillas of Uganda. The drive from Entebbe is over 10 hours so guests often choose to fly. On from the gorilla trek the Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to a brilliant kaleidoscope of wildlife including hyena, leopards, hippos, elephants, tree climbing lions, and endemic antelope along with the crested crane. Kibale Forest National Park is famed for chimpanzee tracking and is highly recommended and a must for bird lovers and photographers.
General info as of 28 Dec. 2018:
- Rwanda gorilla permits cost US$1500 per person and Uganda US$600.00 per person.
- Trek permits released daily in Rwanda 56 and Uganda 104 permits.
- Trek duration is subject to the general location of the gorilla family, the terrain, weather and a few other factors.
- Sometimes the tracking will take as short as 30 minutes, other times it will take as long as 7 hours.
- A good level of fitness is required and minimum age is 15 years and above.
- Mountain gorillas are critically endangered World Widllife estimate 1040 in the world.
- The best time to gorilla trek is generally June, July, August and September though trekking is available all year round and weather is weather.
- Time spent to sit and observe the gorillas is 45 minutes to an hour.
