Kenya Safari Walking Package:

Unlike a vehicle-based safari, a Kenya Safari Walking experience allows the traveller to enjoy a more intimate insight into Kenya’s animals and its people. These Karisia Mobile Safaris are walking safaris supported fully by camels, we do not use vehicles to move the camps and the camels carry the entire camp and luggage.  The amount of camels on a walking safari will vary from 8 upwards depending on how many people are on the safari.  By using camels rather than vehicles we can get to areas that vehicles cannot reach, it is a very peaceful way of travelling through the landscape. It is the perfect compliment to African Safari Packages from Australia.

Included in the Kenya Safari Walking experience:

Exclusive four night luxury level Karisia Walking Safari in Laikipia, Samburu guides and trackers, twin share, full board accommodation, drinks, activities as stated above, local conservation and community contribution, tipping and transfers from the local airstrip Kimancho.

Sinyai Lugga Camp

Be met by the Karisia Walking team member and transfer to camp we will be greeted by our local team of cooks, camel guys, and guides.  After a refreshing lunch we will enjoy a rest before a short evening walk down the sand river ending with sundowners on a tall promontory with a commanding view.  Greater Kudu inhabit the hillsides that slope down toward our camp and we will scan for these elusive animals. Back at camp we will find our welcoming campfire on the edge of the sandy lugga.  After hot showers and drinks around the fire we will have a sit down dinner under the stars before retiring to your tent.
2

Walk to Nayasura Camp

We will wake up early and walk along the sand river looking for the shy Bushbuck and Impala, sleepy Vervet Monkeys and the Verraux Eagle Owl who has been hunting all night. We wind our way up the ridge to our next campsite. The local Laikipia Masai call these rocks Nayasura and stone chippings suggest that they have been used as a camp for millennia. We too will use the rocks starting with a refreshing lunch and short rest in our classic roomy safari tents. After lunch we will head out on a walk looking for game and as the sun begins to set we will find ourselves at the crest of Nayasura with drinks and snacks, watching the baboons come back to roost on the face of the rock.
3

Walk to Nyarara Camp

From Nayasura we will head out early after breakfast to see as much game as possible on our walk north towards Nyarara Camp. Nyarara means cheetah in Masai and the camp was given this name because of a large male that has been seen in the area. We will walk across large plains as well as mixed bush looking for herds of Common and Grevy’s zebra, oryx and Grant’s gazelle which predominate on the large plains. In the mixed bush we find Dik Diks, Gerenuk, Impala and Lesser Kudu if we are lucky enough to see them. The pack camels with our camp will have taken a more direct route than us and they will have arrived and set up the camp before our arrival. We will arrive at camp in time for lunch and a cold drink. After lunch we will relax and walk to a pretty spot for sundowners.
4

Walk to Tumaren Ewaso Camp

Today we will be heading down toward the Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs along the eastern edge of the Laikipia Plateau and then turns eastward toward Samburu National Reserve. Along the way we will be looking for Eland, Steinbuck and Giraffe and enjoy the changing scenery. When we arrive at the Ewaso Nyiro we may want to take a quick swim before lunch. After lunch, a rest and sundowners on a high rocky hillside we will return to our camp on the river for dinner and a toast to our adventure.

Depart camp

After a morning walk, breakfast and goodbye to the team you will be transferred to the next leg of your Kenyan adventure.
